World War II plane on exhibit in central Illinois

DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A World War II-era plane is making a pit stop in central Illinois as part of a national tour.

The (Decatur) Herald and Review reports that a bomber from 1945 named Aluminum Overcast is on display at the Decatur Airport until Sunday (https://bit.ly/1sBcECR ). The four-engine plane with 13 machine guns is open for tours and hour-long flights.

The Experimental Aircraft Association owns the plane. Scott Jefson is local chapter’s president. He says the bomber is a traveling museum that’s intended to remind people of the pilots who flew in World War II.

Veterans, active military members and children under 8 years old can go aboard for free, but flying tours will run $475 a ticket.
