LANSDOWNE, Pa. (AP) - A motorist who police say was drunk and racing another vehicle has been jailed on charges he killed a Philadelphia School District police officer who was driving to work on his motorcycle.
The officer, 47-year-old Gregory Hayes, was a married father of two. He was wearing a helmet when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it collided with the truck that pulled into his path driven by 31-year-old Salome Seay, of Upper Darby Township.
Township police say it appears Seay was racing another vehicle when he turned in front of the motorcycle after a traffic light turned green about 11:15 p.m. Friday. Police say Hayes was driving to work the midnight shift and Seay was returning home from a night of drinking.
Hayes doesn’t have an attorney listed in court records.
