FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - A man who prosecutors said was driving under the influence of drugs has been convicted of vehicular homicide charges stemming from a 2009 crash in central New Jersey.
Vincent Laing of Eatontown was also convicted on a drug possession charge and now faces up to 15 years in prison when he’s sentenced June 27. The verdicts were recently handed down by a Monmouth County jury.
Authorities say the 30-year-old Laing was eastbound on Route 33 in Neptune Township when his car left its lane and crossed over three lanes before it collided head-on with a westbound car driven by 82-year-old Inge Polly of Neptune.
Polly was pronounced dead at the scene, while Laing suffered a dislocated hip and a broken wrist.
Prosecutors said Laing had several medications in his system.
