MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont lawmakers have started what they hope will be the last day of the 2013-2014 legislative term, with budget and tax bills the last big remaining items on the agenda.
The Vermont Senate resumed business at 10 a.m. Saturday. House Speaker Shap Smith gave his members until 11 a.m. to come to order, to give them a chance to rest up for what he said might be a long day.
Doubts about a Saturday adjournment began to clear up Friday evening, when negotiators said they had come to agreement on the fiscal 2015 budget. Another conference committee was working into the night to come to agreement on a tax bill.
