ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A St. Paul man accused of compiling a “hit list” pleaded guilty this week to stalking charges related to his ex-wife, ex-girlfriend and a pastor.
Michael John Mangan, 43, pleaded guilty Friday to three counts of aggravated stalking. He could face about three years in prison when he’s sentenced July 3, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported (https://bit.ly/1hEo8P0 ).
Mangan’s sister and brother-in-law told police last fall that Mangan had assembled a list of people he planned to kill. The targets included his ex-wife, a former colleague he had dated, two pastors, a court official and a police investigator, the criminal complaint said.
Online court records didn’t list a defense attorney for Mangan.
Mangan was motivated by a bitter divorce, the complaint said.
“Mangan explained (to his brother-in-law) his plan to arrive in a car, enter the residences, kill the people and then escape in a different vehicle,” according to court documents. He also planned to kill police who tried to stop him, the complaint said.
Officers who executed a search warrant at his home found sealed letters addressed to his children, other relatives and friends, the complaint said.
“The letters were written as though he had completed a murder/suicide involving (his ex-wife),” the complaint said.
