PERU, Ind. (AP) - Northern Indiana prosecutors won’t file charges in the drowning death of a toddler who fell into an ornamental landscaping pond in her family’s backyard last month.
Peru police officer Matt Feller says Miami County prosecutors reviewed the death of 14-month-old Brianna Rylands and ruled that her drowning was an accident and that no criminal charges would be filed in the case.
Feller tells the Kokomo Tribune (https://bit.ly/1kVJiKP ) the child’s death was “just an unfortunate accident” and there was never any indication of foul play.
He says the girl’s mother had left her alone in a fenced-in yard for a few minutes and came outside to find the girl drowning in the backyard pond. The youngster was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital where she died two days later.
