EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - Nearly three dozen gang members have been arrested in a five-day fugitive roundup in the Rio Grande Valley’s Hidalgo County.
Sheriff’s spokesman J.P. Rodriguez says the operation that began Monday morning and wrapped up Friday also determined two other gang members being sought are dead and 14 others are in custody for other offenses.
The sweep included a raid on a stash house where 20 gang members were found inside.
Rodriguez tells The Monitor of McAllen (https://bit.ly/1se11j8 ) the operation was intended to apprehend people with outstanding arrest warrangs and disrupt gang activities on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border.
The fugitive sweep also discovered 41 people in the U.S. illegally. They’ve been turned over to immigration authorities.
