EDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - Assault by auto charges have been filed against a woman who prosecutors say was driving drunk when she allegedly struck and critically injured a bicyclist in northern New Jersey.
Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced the charges against 40-year-old Siobhan Stokley on Saturday, one day after the accident occurred in Edgewater. The North Bergen resident also faces several motor vehicle citations.
Molinelli says Stokley was driving northbound on River Road around 10:50 p.m. Friday when her vehicle struck the rear wheel of a bicycle driven by 61-year-old Tony Tyson of Jersey City. The collision caused Tyson to fall from his bicycle and strike his head against the paved roadway surface.
Stokley was released after posting $15,000 bail, and is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Thursday. It was not known Saturday if she had retained an attorney.
Tyson remained hospitalized Saturday in critical condition. Further details on his injuries have not been disclosed.
The accident remains under investigation by the fatal accident investigation unit from the prosecutor’s office and the Edgewater Police Department.
