Corrections officer accused of attacking woman

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a state corrections officer attacked a woman inside a central New Jersey home this week.

Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says 35-year-old Sayreville resident Devin Gangadyal was charged with aggravated assault in connection with Thursday’s attack.

Bail has not been set in the case, and it was not known Saturday if Gangadyal has retained a lawyer. A telephone number for Gangadyal could not be located.

Gangadyal has worked for the state Corrections Department for about a year. His job status was not known Saturday.

Authorities say the woman was being treated at a hospital for “extensive injuries.” Further details were not disclosed.
