PELHAM, N.Y. (AP) - Prosecutors say an NYPD officer has been arraigned on an assault charge for shooting a suburban New York man six times while he sat in a car stopped at a traffic light.
Prosecutors arraigned Brendan Cronin Wednesday night. He’s being held on $150,000 bail.
The 27-year-old officer didn’t enter a plea, but defense attorney Pierre Sussman said Thursday he’ll plead not guilty.
Police say the five-year veteran appears to have fired his Glock 9 millimeter service weapon randomly while off duty.
A criminal complaint says Cronin shot 47-year-old Joseph Felice six times, hitting him twice in the chest. It says Felice was also hit in the thumb and his right arm, which will require surgery.
A woman who answered the phone registered to Felice’s New Rochelle address would not comment.
