NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors in New Jersey say they have received the first guilty plea under a revised version of a recently enacted anti-human trafficking bill.
The Essex County prosecutor’s office says Charles P. Torres of North Bergen pleaded guilty Thursday to multiple counts, including human trafficking and sexual assault.
Prosecutors say Torres admitted to recruiting a 15 year-old girl to work as an underage prostitute in Essex and Hudson counties.
Torres said he advertised the victim on the internet and accepted money from adult men who had sex with her. Prosecutors say Torres also admitted to committing sexual assault against the victim and photographing her in sexual situations.
Under a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend he be sentenced to no less than 20 years in prison at his June 27 sentencing.
