GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - A Jefferson County judge has sentenced a man to 13 years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a teenager he struck after running a red light while street racing.

Derrick Fransua said he hit 15-year-old Gerard Julien as the boy jogged through an intersection on July 20.

Jefferson County District Judge Stephen Munsinger said Thursday it was senseless behavior by a 22-year-old man who had strong family ties and other advantages.

The Denver Post reports (https://tinyurl.com/n3owvuj ) Fransua pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
