GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) - A Hudson Valley man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing a police officer during a street brawl outside a nightclub two years ago.
The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/PTfZhU ) that 36-year-old Larry Gantt Jr. of Poughkeepsie, New York was sentenced Wednesday in Orange County Court.
Gantt was convicted at of assault and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer for his actions during a November 2012 melee in the city of Newburgh.
Authorities say officers responded to a brawl outside a nightclub where up to 100 had gathered. One of the officers tackled Gantt after seeing him assaulting another man.
Gantt said he had been stabbed and stomped by a group of men and thought the officer was another attacker.
The officer was stabbed in the neck, arm and back but survived.
