NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - Defense lawyers are seeking dismissal of a murder indictment against a woman accused of killing her wife, after two mistrials in her case.
The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1jm4BXz) Thursday that lawyers for Cara Rintala filed the motion in mid-April. Prosecutors said they will oppose it.
Rintala is free on $150,000 bail after her second trial in January ended with a hung jury. The jury in her first trial last year also was unable to reach a verdict.
Rintala, a paramedic, is accused of strangling Annamarie Cochrane Rintala, also a paramedic, in at their Granby home in 2010.
Prosecutors said the couple, had a troubled relationship and argued over money and their young daughter.
Defense lawyers said there was little evidence pointing to Cara Rintala, and police failed to investigate other possible suspects.
