PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Dozens of firefighters battled a multialarm blaze that engulfed two abandoned buildings in Paterson that apparently were being occupied by several squatters.
No injuries were reported in the fire on Fair Street, which broke out around 1 p.m. Sunday. The blaze was contained about two hours later, but was expected to keep burning for a few more hours.
Paterson Fire Chief Michael Postorino told The Record (https://bit.ly/1iqOZUw) that squatters came out of the buildings as crews arrived, but he said no one lived legally at either site. It was not immediately clear how many squatters may have been in either building.
The cause of the three-alarm fire remains under investigation.
