ATLANTA (AP) - The congregation at Mount Vernon Baptist Church has held its final Sunday service in a building that’s being torn down to make way for a new $1.2 billion stadium in downtown Atlanta.

Congregation member Deborah Simmons tells WSB-TV (https://bit.ly/1ioLY2H ) the building holds many memories since she was baptized there and her grandmother worked in the kitchen.

The congregation voted in September 2013 to accept a $14.5 million offer for property near the Georgia Dome that’s in the path of the planned retractable-roof stadium.
