DETROIT (AP) - Detroit authorities say a space heater placed too close to flammable materials may have caused a fire that killed two men at a house on the city’s west side.

WXYZ-TV says the fire started about 8:30 a.m. Family members say the victims include 56-year-old homeowner Richard Holmes.

The identity of the other man wasn’t immediately known.

Fire Capt. Frank Maiorana tells WDIV-TV that crews arrived quickly from a fire station several blocks away to find the fire had spread fast.
