PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials say a glass company has agreed to pay a $120,000 penalty for hazardous waste violations at its Yuma facility.
ADEQ announced the settlement with Dlubak Glass Co., Inc., on Friday.
The fee is part of a consent judgment handed down by the Maricopa County Superior Court.
The agency cited the company for its storage and recycling of cathode ray tube glass.
Inspectors say they found broken glass throughout the 5-acre facility as well as stained soil.
They say the tainted soil extended 20 feet into an adjoining orchard.
Investigators say samples from the property showed levels of lead that were 75 times more than the federal and state levels.
Dlubak Glass is considered one of the largest American recyclers of cathode ray tube glass.
