AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Clay Morgan had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Ponder rallied from 14 down in the third quarter for 66-56 victory over Tatum to win the Class 2A state championship Saturday.
Brady Anderson scored 18 for Ponder, which trailed 40-26 before Anderson made the first of his two 3-pointers in a 19-7 Ponder run. The second pulled Ponder within a point and Cameron Sallez put Ponder ahead 48-46 in the fourth.
The teams traded the lead three times over the next 90 seconds before Ponder (32-7) slowly pulled away. Ponder made 9 of 13 free throws over the final 2:18 to win the school’s first state title since a three-year championship run from 2008-2010.
Klifton Lewis scored 17 and Chaston Brooks had 10 points and nine rebounds for Tatum (35-5).
