OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Sophomore Tiarra Davis hit the tiebreaking free throws with 38.9 seconds left and Pond Creek-Hunter won its first Girls’ Class A basketball title on Saturday, beating Seiling 32-30.
No. 3 Pond Creek-Hunter (28-1) led most of the way and was up 29-23 entering the fourth quarter. The Panthers ran the four-corners offense most of the quarter and held on for the win.
No. 7 Seiling (23-6) pulled even at 30-30 on a basket by Kylie Templin with 1:04 left. Pond Creek-Hunter looked to hold the ball again before Davis was fouled and made both free throws.
The Wildcats had a chance to tie, but Kaci Livingston missed an 8-foot runner in traffic and Rylie Halcomb rebounded for Pond Creek-Hunter with nine-tenths of a second left. Halcomb led the Panthers with 13 points while Davis had nine points and seven rebounds.
Morgan Marks led Seiling with 10 points.
