BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo police have arrested a teenager in the death of a 52-year-old man who was brutally beaten and then set on fire in his home.

Nineteen-year-old David Meyers was arrested Friday on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Brian Dombek.

The Buffalo News reports (https://bit.ly/1fTiRRD ) that fire marshals initially blamed the fire Tuesday night on careless smoking.

But an autopsy showed Dombek had been beaten to death before the fire started.

Witnesses told police they saw a man running from the house.

Police told the newspaper that Dombek’s face was beaten beyond recognition and the fire destroyed his fingerprints.

He lived alone with his dog, who also was killed.

Meyers was being held pending a court appearance Saturday. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
