MACON, Ga. (AP) - Tookie Brown scored 36 points to lead Morgan County to a 69-45 win over Buford Saturday in the GHSA Class AAA boys state championship game at the Macon Coliseum.
Brown, a junior who has committed to Mississippi State, electrified a near-capacity arena filled mostly with Morgan County fans as the Bulldogs captured their first state championship. They lost in the state championship game in 1986 and 1990.
C.J. Turman, a University of Tennessee commit, scored 15 points in a battle against Buford’s Rakim Lubin, the Connecticut-bound center who scored 12 points to lead Buford.
Morgan County (26-5) shot 52 percent (16-31) from the floor in the first half as it took a 15-point lead in the first quarter and a 19-point lead into the half. The Bulldogs were even better in the second half, shooting 60 percent (12-20). They outscored Buford (27-6) 44-18 in the paint.
