POTTSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Jury selection begins Friday in eastern Pennsylvania for a coroner’s inquest into the death of a county prison inmate a year ago.
The inquest in Schuylkill County, the county’s first in more than a decade, will focus on the March 2013 death of 21-year-old Matthew Koncsler of Shenandoah.
Authorities said Koncsler began serving a drug sentence less than two weeks before he was found dead in his cell.
An autopsy didn’t immediately reveal a cause of death. Authorities said there was no indication of criminal activity.
District Attorney Christine Holman told The (Pottsville) Republican-Herald (https://bit.ly/1iiZCbL ) that Koncsler “was troubled, but he mattered.”
She said authorities may not uncover anything but hope to determine whether the death was a criminal act or negligence or if the cause is still unknown.
