TAMA, Iowa (AP) - Federal authorities have charged a 25-year-old man with the killing of his parents last month on the Meskwaki Settlement in central Iowa.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/O3KCR7 ) an FBI agent Friday filed a criminal complaint against Gordon Lasley Jr. in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids in the killings of Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Lasley.
They were found in their home Feb. 5 and apparently were killed with an “edged weapon.”
A bloody machete was found on a couch.
Lasley also faces state charges of first-degree murder.
Federal authorities can prosecute American Indians who allegedly commit crimes in tribal areas.
Federal law allows the death penalty for people convicted of first-degree murder. Iowa doesn’t have the death penalty.
The complaint doesn’t specify what degree federal officials are seeking.
