COMMERCE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities have found some possible clues about the person whose skeletal remains were found in northeast Georgia, but the identity remains a mystery.
Three men panning for gold in a creek bed found the bones last month behind the Dandelion Inn at the Banks Crossing shopping area, about 24 miles north of Athens.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1g3zPB3) that a cigarette light with “Marty” engraved on it was found near the bones.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a preliminary examination by an anthropologist determined the remains belonged to an adult male.
The Athens newspaper reports that it remains unknown whether foul play was involved in the death.
