MUNDY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An 18-year-old Michigan man faces a murder charge in a wrong-way crash that killed a new bride and critically injured her 11-year-old son.
The Genesee County prosecutor’s office says Zachary Parker of Swartz Creek also was charged Friday with manslaughter, operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death.
Maria Bailey-Collins was heading north on Feb. 9 along U.S. 23 in Mundy Township with her new husband and son when their car was slammed into by another car heading south. The 36-year-old Bailey-Collins was killed. She and Bryan Collins were married four days earlier.
Parker suffered minor injuries. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.
Toxicology reports indicate Parker’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice Michigan’s limit.
He was arraigned Friday in 67th District Court.
