NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a New Jersey man’s nose was broken and his eye socket was fractured after being punched at a New York City subway station in an apparent bias attack.
Police said Thursday the unidentified 39-year-old man was standing at the West Fourth Street subway station just after midnight Saturday with his partner when a white man approached them and asked if they were gay.
Police say the couple ignored the man, who went on to yell anti-gay slurs before punching the victim in the face. They say the suspect, believed to be between 25 and 30-years-old, then fled the station in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood.
Police say the Clifton, N.J. man was treated at Lenox Hill Hospital. They say they’re investigating the incident as a bias assault.
