INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say an Iowa woman was distracted by her 2-year-old son before a car crash that killed him.
The Iowa State Patrol says 31-year-old Jennifer Saffell, of Lacona, was driving on Highway 65 near Indianola Tuesday afternoon when she became distracted by her son, who was in a car seat. Officials say she turned to look at him and crossed the center line. Her vehicle struck an oncoming semitrailer.
The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1kBay4G ) Jacob Saffell was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother survived and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.
