GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Christian Kvilvang went the length of the floor and hit a driving jumper as time ran out Thursday and North Star beat Beulah 52-50 in the first round of the North Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.
Kvilvang finished with 24 points for the Bearcats (18-7), who snapped Beulah’s 16-game winning streak.
The Miners (19-6) had tied the game on Cole Messerschmidt’s 3-pointer with 9 seconds to play. But Kvilvang took the inbound pass and weaved his way into the lane where he banked in a jumper. Kvilvang also had six rebounds.
Weston Alex was the only other North Star player in double figures with 11 points. His two free throws with 4:09 left made it 50-47 and the score stayed that way until Messerschmidt’s three.
Messerschmidt had six 3-pointers and led the Miners with 22 points. Casey Walcker chipped in 11 points.
