CHICAGO (AP) - The Cook County Sheriff’s Office says a 32-year-old Chicago man is in jail after allegedly walking into the Daley Center carrying a loaded handgun and wearing body armor and a uniform.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that the man works for a security firm but isn’t authorized to carry weapons.

According to the release an armed man in a blue uniform approached a sheriff’s deputy at the Daley Center on Tuesday and said he needed to sign in his weapon.

The man was taken into custody. A search turned up more ammunition and a knife, baton, pepper spray and handcuffs.

The man has not been formally charged but was jailed on preliminary charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and impersonation of a peace officer.
