KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - A Benton County judge says two Yakima County sheriff’s detectives tricked a homicide suspect into talking with them after he asked for a lawyer.
As a result, anything Robert McCorkingdale said about the death of Preston Yahne after invoking his right to a lawyer can’t be used at his murder trial.
The Tri-City Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1i9QUZ7 ) Judge Sal Mendoza said Tuesday the interview last June was “a training manual for what not to do with a murder suspect.”
McCorkingdale was turned over to Benton County after investigators determined the death happened near Prosser.
The 24-year-old Prosser man is scheduled for trial in May. He’s accused of stabbing and running down the 22-year-old Yahne and burning his body in the trunk of a car where his skull and bones were found.
