WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A 21-year-old man has pleaded not guilty in the killing of an older man who had placed an ad looking for a roommate.
Grant Van Muren entered the plea Monday in a DuPage County courtroom. He faces multiple charges including first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the death of 55-year-old Charles Clark of Naperville.
Authorities say Clark, a self-employed computer specialist, met Muren after the younger man answered Clark’s Craigslist posting for a roommate.
Prosecutors say Muren stangled Clark during a fight shortly after moving into Clark’s townhouse and attempted to conceal the crime by trying to blow up the residence with natural gas from a stove.
Muren is in custody at the DuPage County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail.
