TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fire that claimed the life of woman outside Tuscaloosa.
Tuscaloosa County sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and police responded to the home on Shaw Drive in the Holt community of Tuscaloosa County shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities say 28-year-old Lakendel Church was found inside the burned home when her mother returned home from work.
Investigators tell WBRC-TV that they believe the blaze started from something cooking on the stove. They say smoke spread from the kitchen to the bedroom, where Church’s body was discovered.
Sgt. Dale Phillips, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, tells The Tuscaloosa News that investigators do not think that foul play was involved.
