DETROIT (AP) - Officials say a traffic citation issued to a Detroit City Council member earlier this year has been dismissed because of a paperwork mix-up.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report the ticket for George Cushingberry Jr. could be re-issued. Police say the officer who cited Cushingberry didn’t get a notice to appear in court because 36th District Court sent it to the officer’s old post.
Cushingberry lawyer Rohn Mitchell says it would be “very unusual” for police to re-issue the ticket.
Alcohol and marijuana were found during the Jan. 7 stop. Cushingberry was ticketed for failing to signal a turn but wasn’t given a sobriety test. Cushingberry’s passenger was licensed to use medical marijuana.
Cushingberry has said he wasn’t drunk and was a victim of racial profiling.
