CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Health insurance signups through the federal exchange have increased in Wyoming ahead of Monday’s deadline to join or face penalties, according to representatives of the two insurers providing coverage in the state.
About 30 people signed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming in the first hours of business Monday, senior director of care delivery and coordination Wendy Curran said. “We have had very high activity last week and again this morning,” she said Monday.
John Gardner, chief business development officer at WINHealth, estimated his company has been adding around 200 enrollees a day in recent days. “We have seen a significant increase in enrollees every single day,” he said.
New enrollees are saying they don’t want to have to pay penalties, Gardner said. Also, many tax preparers have been urging eligible clients to get signed up, he said.
“It hasn’t gone without its bumps and hiccups, but we’re working through it, and we’re really excited about where we are and where our members are,” Gardner said.
Almost 6,850 people had enrolled under the Affordable Care Act in Wyoming as of March 1, according to the most recent statistics available from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
