EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) - The Salvation Army has cut back on its food service in northwestern Indiana after falling short of its fundraising goals.
The organization says donations to its Christmas season Red Kettle drive in Lake County fell 42 percent short of the $645,000 goal.
Salvation Army Capt. Rebecca Simmons tells The Times of Munster (https://bit.ly/1pFOMe8 ) that its three Lake County sites will each have to cut $50,000 in employee and program expenses.
The East Chicago center is now serving as many as 100 free lunches three days a week rather than its previous five days.
Volunteer John Wilkening is starting a campaign to raise $50,000 so that the East Chicago kitchen can resume five-day service.
