STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - A Penn State student who told police she was kidnapped from a campus sidewalk is facing charges of making a false report.

Police said Monday that 20-year-old Samantha Sernekos, of Landing, N.J., admitted to authorities that the Jan. 25 incident didn’t happen.

Police Chief Tyrone Parham said authorities examined surveillance video and other evidence during a two-month investigation and concluded no crime occurred.

Campus police ramped up their night patrols after the student reported that she had been pulled into a vehicle, driven off campus and escaped as her abductors were trying to assault her.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Centre County Court on April 30. Court records do not list an attorney for Sernekos.
