TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors Association supports legalizing possession of marijuana.
Seven members of the group’s board of trustees voted to back the idea. Two were opposed and one member abstained.
President Jon-Henry Barr tells the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/1fFpXKu ) most municipal prosecutors favor legalization because of the damage a marijuana possession conviction has on a person’s reputation.
One bill in the New Jersey Senate would legalize the growing, sale and possession of marijuana. An Assembly bill would ask voters to legalize possession of an ounce or less of pot.
Gov. Chris Christie has said he opposes legalization.
