PHOENIX (AP) - A 73-year-old former math teacher at an all-boys prep school in Phoenix has been sentenced to a year in prison and seven years of probation after pleading guilty in in a sex case involving inappropriate relationships with students in the1980s.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge sentenced Dan Whitehead on Monday.

He pleaded guilty last year to one count of sexual abuse and no contest to another count of sex abuse and one count of furnishing obscene or harmful items to minors.

Whitehead was fired in November 2011 after two former Brophy College Preparatory School students claimed he molested them in the 1980s. The students didn’t want police contacted.

Phoenix police investigated anyway and found that Whitehead allegedly invited students home, gave them alcohol and then tried to fondle them.
