PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A widespread storm system drenching the East Coast is expected to leave more than 2 inches of rain across Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until shortly before noon on Sunday for all Rhode Island counties.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1fCIebe ) that a flood warning also has been issued for the Pawtuxet River in Kent and Providence counties until late Sunday night. The flood stage is 9 feet and the river was at about 9.2 feet Sunday morning.



Meteorologist Bill Simpson said the rainfall is not unusual for this time in early spring.
