CHAPARRAL, N.M. (AP) - Authorities in southern New Mexico say a woman is in custody after allegedly shooting her live-in boyfriend in Chaparral.
Dona Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say 37-year-old Margarita Flores is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
They say she remained in jail Monday on a $75,000 secured bond.
Flores told investigators she thought she had been stabbed during an argument with her boyfriend Sunday evening.
But medical examiners at a Las Cruces-area hospital didn’t find any evidence to substantiate that claim.
Authorities say the man was shot multiple times in the torso and was transported to an El Paso-area hospital in critical condition. His name hasn’t been released.
Chaparral is located north of El Paso and south of Las Cruces.
