GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A man faces trial on murder and home invasion charges in the killing of an 81-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife in their western Michigan home.
The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1kr1uPY ) jury selection is Monday in the case of 23-year-old Javonte Higgins.
Police in the Grand Rapids-area community of Kentwood say David and Vivian Bouwman were found fatally shot Jan. 5, 2013. Police say they discovered the couple’s burned-out gold Cadillac DeVille in neighboring Wyoming, which led them to find the killings.
A lawyer for Higgins has said there’s no direct evidence implicating him.
Higgins was arrested in the Chicago suburb of Blue Island. He faces the prospect of a mandatory life prison sentence if convicted of murder.
