PHOENIX (AP) - A 37-year-old woman has been sentenced to four years of probation and given a deferred 12-month jail term in the suffocation death of her newborn daughter.

Nina Koistinen pleaded guilty in January to negligent homicide and domestic violence after originally being charged with second-degree murder.

Koistinen was sentenced Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court.

She was arrested in April 2013 after an autopsy found signs of suffocation in the April 8 death of the 6-day-old infant, who was named Maya.

Authorities initially were called to a home on a report of a baby who had stopped breathing.
