EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Police in Eugene, Ore., say a man accused of fatally beating and strangling his roommate’s small dog has been arrested.

The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/FmvE8P ) that police spokesman John Hankemeier says the man’s female roommate arrived home Thursday afternoon and found the miniature pinscher bleeding and unresponsive. She took the dog to an emergency vet hospital, where it died.

Police say 26-year-old James Harold Martin was arrested for investigation of aggravated first-degree animal abuse.
