COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The family of a central Ohio high school student is suing the school district and a former school resource officer who she says lured her into a sexual relationship.
The family of the girl filed the lawsuit in Columbus on Thursday against former officer Todd L. Smith and Columbus city schools.
The 51-year-old Smith was sentenced last year to seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge that he used a cellphone to entice two 15-year-old girls to engage in sexual activity.
The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1frpZpj ) reports that the lawsuit seeks at least $75,000 in damages and claims the school should have known something was going on between the girl and the officer.
A school spokeswoman had no immediate comment.
