SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The Springfield school system and city police are investigating after a 14-year-old middle school girl was taken to the hospital with a deep cut above her eye and bruises on her face.
The girl’s mother said on her Facebook page that her daughter was “assaulted … by a boy” at Van Sickle Middle School on Wednesday morning and the school never reported it to authorities.
The woman said the school also delayed taking the girl to the hospital.
But a spokeswoman for the city’s public schools says proper protocol was followed and the injuries remain under investigation.
Police tell WSHM-TV (https://bit.ly/1jCEldW) that they are investigating but it appears as if the girl was hurt unintentionally during “horseplay” that may have gotten out of hand.
