HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey prosecutor can’t authenticate 75 percent of the baseball memorabilia confiscated in an illegal prescription drug case that he had planned to auction.
Prosecutor John Molinelli says only about 25 percent of the items submitted for authentication passed inspection. The rest will be destroyed.
The prosecutor tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1mxZohQ ) newspaper to do otherwise would leave the county vulnerable to potential lawsuits from successful bidders.
Molinelli paid a handwriting analyst in Las Vegas $10,000 to review the items.
The prosecutor expects the upcoming auction will generate more than $100,000.
