ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon woman who charged more than $12,000 on a credit card she stole from her father won’t serve jail time.
The News-Review (https://is.gd/PMEgxr ) reports a judge Thursday sentenced 20-year-old Brandi Nicole Evers to probation and 20 days on a work crew.
The Roseburg woman pleaded no contest in January to aggravated first-degree theft - a felony.
Though he called police after noticing the suspicious charges, Evers’ father said the felony charge is too harsh.
George Evers said his daughter was a scholar student before she developed a drug addiction and began a relationship with a man arrested in the same case. He said his daughter’s life is back on track after inpatient treatment.
The now ex-boyfriend, Michael Murphy, pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for June.
