GLOBE, Ariz. (AP) - A newly hired detention officer at the Gila County Jail is accused of smuggling contraband to inmates.

County Sheriff’s officials say its detention administration received information Tuesday that 28-year-old officer Brittany Gonzales was allegedly smuggling contraband.

Detectives launched an investigation Wednesday.

The county Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force took Gonzales into custody on felony charges of promoting prison contraband.

Authorities say Gonzales has been employed by the sheriff’s office since Feb. 24.
