CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Marion County man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2011 slaying of his father-in-law.

Media outlets report that a Harrison County Circuit Court jury found Michael Ian Palmer of Baxter guilty on Wednesday following seven hours of deliberations. The jury recommended mercy, meaning Palmer would be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.

Palmer’s trial was moved to Harrison County in February after a jury couldn’t be seated in Marion County.

Prosecutors say Palmer fatally shot Everett Wilson on Dec. 11, 2011, at Palmer’s home in Baxter.
